IGA Diploma in Groupwork Practice (Manchester)
New for 2012!
This new, one year course, leads towards the status of
Group Work Practitioner and
Associate Membership of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA).
This course is for those who have successfully completed an IGA Foundation Course in Group Analysis.
The course is run over 10 weekends in Manchester.
The course offers:
- Work reflection group to support the practice of running a group over the year.
- Theoretical seminars that cover the knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to successfully run a range of groups.
- Workshops – 4 full day seminars held at Manchester Metropolitan University which include lectures, discussion groups and experiential work.
- The experience of Large Groups to explore the social context in relation to personal and professional development.
- Possible intensive learning experience (ILE).
All students studying for the Manchester Diploma in Groupwork Practice receive group analytic psychotherapy as an integrated part of their training experience at no additional cost.
Assessment
Students are required to write a trial essay plus 2 assessed essays. Students are also required to keep a reflective diary. There is a also a minimum attendance requirement for the course.
On completion of the course, students can apply to the IGA for Groupwork Practitioner Status and Associate Membership of the IGA (students will need to provide evidence of satisfactory clinical practice under supervision).
Further Training
Students wishing to continue training can apply for the Qualifying Course in Group Analysis (applications should be submitted in January each year). Alternatively, students may apply to remain in therapy-only for a further period of time following the completion of the course.
How to apply:
All applicants should complete an application form and send this to the course administrator with a non-refundable deposit of £150.00. There will be two interviews (one professional and one personal) held in Manchester.
All prospective applicants are asked to talk to the course convenor prior to sending in a formal application
Fees:
For 2012 – 2013 the fees will be: £2,850 (plus a possible additional fee of £300 for the ILE). A monthly payment scheme is available.
